Review of Existing Measures

We now examine the psychometric properties of measures designed to assess different aspects of affective experience. We first consider scales assessing general, higher-order dimensions that occupy the upper levels of the hierarchical structure of affect.

Measures of the Higher Order Dimensions

We begin our review by considering measures of Pleasantness (also known as Valence or Evaluation) and Engagement (also called Activation or Arousal). As noted earlier, these represent the key constructs in Russell's influential model of affect.
